Kayla Friedrichsen

Kayla is a Northern California based ceramic artist inspired by natural systems. Specifically, cycles of death, decay, and rebirth, relationships between predator and prey, and generational patterns; the latter likely inspired by her background in evolutionary biology.

She focuses primarily on functional pieces, in the hopes of making everyday routines feel like ritual. To that end, Kayla tries to instill a bit of whimsy and mysticism into her surface designs.

Kayla’s work with clay began in 2018 in Berkeley, and she has now returned to her hometown of Petaluma, where she creates in a community studio.
